High-Deductible Plan G

High-Deductible Plan G

High-Deductible Medicare Plan G is a version of Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) that offers the same comprehensive benefits as standard Plan G — but with a lower monthly premium in exchange for a higher annual deductible.

Like traditional Plan G, the high-deductible option helps cover most of the out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not pay. The key difference is that you must first meet an annual deductible before the plan begins paying benefits.

This option can be a strong fit for individuals who want the protection of a comprehensive Medigap plan but prefer lower monthly premiums and are comfortable covering larger out-of-pocket costs if needed.

Important High-Deductible Plan G Note for 2026

High-Deductible Plan G requires you to meet an annual deductible before benefits begin. In 2026, the High-Deductible Plan G deductible is $2,950. This includes the Medicare Part B deductible, which is $283 in 2026.

Once you have met the $2,870 deductible for the year, High-Deductible Plan G functions like standard Plan G — covering most Medicare-approved Part A and Part B cost-sharing for the remainder of the calendar year.

This structure makes High-Deductible Plan G an attractive option for beneficiaries who want catastrophic-style protection with significantly lower monthly premiums.

Commonly Asked Questions About Medicare Plan G

Is Plan G Less Expensive Than Plan F?

Maybe. Different companies offer different rates, so depending on who the policy is written with, Plan G could be less expensive.

Are All Companies The Same Price For Medicare Plan G?

There are many companies who offer Medicare Plan G. While the plan itself does not vary, the pricing can vary from company to company.

With Medicare Plan F Being Discontinued, is Plan G A Good Replacement?

It is possible that after 2020, Medicare Plan F will no longer be available. If you were eligible for Medicare Plan A prior to 2020, you can continue to enroll in Medicare Plan F. If you have not enrolled previously, Plan G is a great replacement as it is only lacking one benefit, the Part B deductible mentioned above.
